All the staff at Brookfield Hall Student Village hopes that the recent exams for Junior Cert and Leaving Cert students are going well for everyone.
Sitting the Leaving Cert and the Junior Cert is a daunting experience that often brings with it a huge amount of stress.

With the summer drawing to a close and college just around the corner students will no doubt start flocking back to UL in large numbers. Most students will move into Brookfield Hall Student accommodation over the weekend starting Friday 28th of August, with orientation commencing for first year students on Tuesday 1st of September.
By allocated accommodation blocks for first year students we feel that they have a great opportunity to meet new students as they begin college life. The first year student blocks are in huge demand this year with new students attending UL for the first time already occupying over two full blocks, with a third one filling up fast. We await your arrival and are looking forward to an enjoyable year at Brookfield Hall student accommodation.

The Sporting Facilities available in UL truly are second to none. The word “Sport” has long been synonymous with Limerick as a city and perhaps that is the reason that it was here that Ireland’s first 50m swimming pool was built. Along with the Olympic size swimming pool, the UL arena boasts many other facilities such as the Cardio Fitness Centre, the National Strength and Conditioning Centre and many more. UL also has its own activity centre on Lough Derg. This offers students to not only take part in more traditional team sports such as rugby, hurling and waterpolo but also to enjoy sports such as sailing and windsurfing as part of some of the wide range of clubs in UL. No matter what kind of sport you’re into, there’s something for everyone from aerobics to archery so there simply is no excuse for not giving something a go!

The Brookfield Hall team have had yet another busy week in the office. This week we have been preparing for our open day barbeque which will take place, tomorrow, Saturday 15th of August from 2-5pm. The barbeque is being run in co-ordination with Spin South West and the Spinis will be there on the day. You can also enter our draw for Munster Season tickets by booking your student accommodation on the day! All prospective UL students and their families are welcome. Brookfield Hall is just a short walk from the University of Limerick making it the perfect place for students returning to UL this September. Brookfield is comprised of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom luxury apartments and offers the facility for friends to share apartments if they wish. As the rent is paid per person to the management this stops arguments over who owes what as can happen with private rented houses. The apartments come fully fitted and furnished to the highest standards and all bedrooms are ensuite.
This year a new broadband system has been installed and the management have also decided to offer broadband free of charge to all students. This means that students can access their e-mails, the SULIS portal and anything else that they need for college.
There is also a free shuttle bus which runs the short distance to the university regularly throughout the day which means when it’s raining there’s no need to get wet by walking or waste money on petrol or car parking. Recently Brookfield negotiated exclusive fixed taxi rates with local cab company Plassey Cabs which means students can keep their transport costs to a minimum with fares starting from just €6.

As you may have noticed, we here in Brookfield Hall have re-launched and updated our website in recent weeks. The new website includes new updated photos as well as information regarding all the changes we have been making here in preparation for September. Only today our professional photographer was in again to take some video footage of the complex to link to the website. Now you really can experience a virtual tour of the apartments online.

This summer has seen a phenomenal number of tourists residing in Brookfield Hall. Due to this we here in reception have organised with the Limerick Tourist Office to have Tourist Information Packs on site including maps and a list of things to see and do in Limerick and the surrounding Shannon region.
Also we have ourselves done up a map of the Limerick locality showing all the local amenities including shops, off-licences and restaurants etc. to help people find their feet in their first few days here. All of this information is available at reception along with taxi numbers and any other information that may be required during your time here in Brookfield Hall.

In co-ordination with the International Office in UL, Brookfield is making constant improvements to the facilities offered to Erasmus students and indeed students in general.
Due to the fact that many students, particularly international students, do not have their own cars, Brookfield has decided to offer weekly transport to a local supermarket.It is thought that the transport to and from Childer’s Road Dunnes Stores will cost only €2 and take place on a Monday evening at approximately 6.30pm.
This will allow students to do their weekly shop at the beginning of each week with transport door to door meaning they are not left hauling heavy shopping bags while walking or on city buses.

Developments have been occurring all summer here at Brookfield Hall, the latest being the announcement that there will be a barbeque of the 15th of August from 2-5pm. All students in search of accommodation are welcome to come along with your family and have a good time.
We will also be giving tours of our luxury apartments. Spin Southwest and the Spinnies will be helping to host the event, with the chance of winning a pair of Munster Season Tickets to all Heineken Cup and Magners League home games. So come along, have a great day and see what Brookfield Hall has to offer students.

Exclusive fixed taxi rates have been negotiated for Brookfield Hall residents with local safe cab company Plassey Cabs.
These fares are as follows:
- Anywhere in Castletroy for one person maximum fare only €6
- Anywhere in Castletroy for two-four people maximum fare only €8
- Castletroy-Town and Town-Castletroy for 1-4 people maximum fare €10
- Airport collection just €35
These rates will apply 24/7 including when you flag down a Plassey Cab after a night out if you’re heading back to Brookfield Hall Student Village!
Plassey Cabs will also have a taxi rank in Brookfield Hall on Tuesday and Thursday nights so no need to waste credit calling a taxi to head out, there’ll be one just outside your door!
Plassey Cabs will never leave a student stranded, register with their scheme in the Students Union for just €1 at the start of the college year and receive an ID number. If for some reason, say your wallet is stolen, and you don’t have the money to get home, just call Plassey Cabs and quote this number and you can get home safe and pay for the taxi the following day!
