Cycle for Paul Darbyshire
Monday, June 27th, 2011Well done to all who participated in the “cycle for darbs” event which took place over the last few days. The cycle was in aid of Paul Darbyshire who sadly passed away on Monday following his battle with motor neurone disease. He was a committed and a highly motivational strength and conditioning coach for Munster Rugby. There were different stages of the cycle which took place over 3 days which started in Musgrave Park. There was great support shown for the event which will raise much needed funds for motor neurone research. Many of the Munster Academy members that are currently staying with us here in Brookfield Hall took part in the cycle and praised the event organisers. Brookfield Hall Welcomes English Learning Students
Thursday, July 29th, 2010
This weekend brings with it the arrival of yet another group of foreign Students to Brookfield Hall to attend the University of Limerick for English Language classes. These students attend the University of Limerick every day to study English, and are gone from our student accommodation very early in the morning.
They also enjoy Sports and Recreation classes in the afternoon in the University and even though the students are exhausted by the time they arrive back to Brookfield in the evenings they enjoy every minute of their time spent here. These students will be staying with us for 2 weeks and they are the final group of foreign students which we will be accommodating before the beginning of term.
We have enjoyed accommodating the many different groups of students staying with us over the summer months and we look forward to welcoming them again next year.
Brookfield Hall & UL Sporting Events
Wednesday, July 14th, 2010Brookfield Hall Student Accommodation for UL was once again buzzing with excitement last weekend preparing for the arrival of many participants of the Gaynor cup, which was the big sporting event in UL this weekend. Brookfield Hall was delighted to be able to accommodate the many participants in this sporting event. Some of the young participants were explaining to me all about this wonderful event which is the female equivalent of the Kennedy Cup. This is played on a regional basis rather than local leagues and it also covers different age groups. There are divisions at under 14, 16, 18 and there were 21 teams in all that enjoyed a wonderful weekend of soccer. I have been told that this competition has really grown in stature over the last few years with the FAI and UNBRO putting their full might behind the Tournament. All participants of this event who stayed with us were very impressed with our Luxury Student Apartments. They found Brookfield Hall to be of ideal location due to it being so near the University of Limerick.
The Sporting Facilities available in UL truly are second to none. The word “Sport” has long been synonymous with Limerick as a city and perhaps that is the reason that it was here that Ireland’s first 50m swimming pool was built. Along with the Olympic size swimming pool, the UL arena boasts many other facilities such as the Cardio Fitness Centre, the National Strength and Conditioning Centre and many more. UL also has its own activity centre on Lough Derg. This offers students to not only take part in more traditional team sports such as rugby, hurling and waterpolo but also to enjoy sports such as sailing and windsurfing as part of some of the wide range of clubs in UL. No matter what kind of sport you’re into, there’s something for everyone from aerobics to archery so there simply is no excuse for not giving something a go!
